Uruguay Hydrographic Region

The Uruguay Hydrographic Region is of great importance to the country due to its agro-industrial contribution and its hydroelectric potential. Jointly with the Paraná and Paraguay hydrographic regions it forms the vast Prata hydrographic region. This report provides an overview of the Uruguay hydrographic region, listing the information under the following main topics: general characterization, socioeconomic data, basic sanitation indicators, water availability and use, summary of current conflicts and desirable scenario. A schematic map shows the region's priority aspects, highlights its problems and opportunities and defines the institutional approach to hydric issues.
