The Hydrographic Region of the Amazon
The Hydrographic Region of the Amazon River has had little anthropic intervention.
The sparse occupation of the territory and still incipient economic development,
combined with its exceptional water resources, ensure that water availability
is not a problem in the basin, at least not on a wide scale. Even so,
the wealth of the Amazon biome and its profound interaction with the bodies
of water means that any actions unleashed within the geographical extent
of the basin produce immediate effects on the water resources.
This summarized overview of the region highlights the
main physical, biotic and anthropic aspects, relevant to their interface
with the water resources.
