The Americas Regional Consortium (ARC) is organizing the “Water Forum of the Americas”, scheduled to take place on 24-25 November 2008 in Foz do Iguacu, Paraná, Brazil. This Forum aims to bring together the various stakeholders involved in water policy planning and management in the Americas.
It will gather professionals specialized in water resources management, ranging from government representatives to members of civil society, academia and water user organizations as well as politicians and decision-makers. The goal is to create a platform for discussion aimed at proposing an evaluation of the state of water policy and management in the Americas and adequate policy solutions to the challenges posed by global changes in general and climate variability and change, in particular.
During WFA, participants will analyze the development and progress that the countries of the 4 sub-regions (North America, Central America, Caribbean and South America) achieved over the last decade in the area of water policy.

Regional Process
The Americas Regional Consortium (ARC) is comprised of over 30 members issued from all 4 sub-regions of the Americas (North, Central, South America and the Caribbean). This consortium is responsible to overview the regional process activities and works in close collaboration with the organizers of the preparatory meetings that is taking place leading up to the final Americas Preparatory Process Closing Meeting, the Water Forum of the Americas.
The Americas Regional Process was launched during two consecutive meetings held in São Paulo during the ABRH National Symposium in November 2007 and in Istanbul during the 2nd Coordinators Meeting in February 2008. During these meetings institutions provided inputs for the regional preparatory process that is being laid out in this process.

Sub-regional Process
To assist in the preparation of the South America sub-region towards the 5th World Water Forum, UNESCO´s International Hydrological Programme for Latin America and Caribbean (IHP-LAC) is organizing on 10-11 September 2008, the South American sub-regional forum. This dialogue will contribute toward the formulation of the South American position paper to be presented at the Water Forum of the Americas to be held in Foz do Iguaçu in November 2008.
